old drawings
I promised
mosree I'd scan some old drawings so that she could see them. And now that I have a cheap scanner, I'll do just that. I mean, its not like it was a promise to her, so actually going through with it won't break my track record there. :p Anyone else that wants to look at them can as well.
For today, three things. All images are at http://baines.home.coastalnet.com because I don't have a paid LJ account and thus don't have access to LJ pictures, and because I might as well get some use from that web space. They are the only three links on that page, so they aren't hard to find. And no, no direct links here. If you aren't willing to click one extra link, well then, I don't care if you see them at all. :p Besides, you've already clicked to see this lj-cut, so you are already halfway there. (Edit: Added thumbnails.)
First is an old image of Iori and Leona from King of Fighters. It isn't the original rough sketch, nor is it a final version. I never made a final, because I never settled on a few things. (I've a few pages of slightly altered parts, particularly trying to find an upper body pose that I liked for Leona.) Somewhere along the line, I decided to use it to practice inking, since I didn't really care for the pencils of that version. And by inking, I mean actual ink, not using a paint program on a PC. Everything mentioned here hasn't even seen a computer until today. This was also one of the last times I tried inking something. It is too easy to make a mistake. The original picture was scanned at I think 200dpi, then reduced to 30% size because I'm not making a gallery or anything. :p
Second is a rough sketch of Nakoruru. I've no idea how old any of these are, just that they are at least several years old. This one is most likely mid 90s. The scanner really picked up how much the paper had yellowed on this one, though I did remove the yellow when scaling it down for this page. I liked this sketch enough to save it by cutting it from whatever piece of paper I original did it on. Probably either some test paper, or program print out, or maybe just happened to be the only sketch I liked on a page of attempts. *shrug* The image is unfinished because it was only a rough sketch. Scanned at 200dpi, then reduced 50%.
Third is a second version of the Nakoruru sketch, done I think a few months after the original. Or maybe days. Or maybe years. The paper hadn't yellowed on this one, though the pencils themselves have a yellow tint (removed on computer for better comparison). While I liked the rough sketch, I wondered if I could make a clean drawing of the same image and still like it, and this was the test case. I did a very basic trace and then gave it a quick shot. This one is unfinished because it was only a test. I didn't have the rest of the figure sketched to begin with. Even if I had finished this one, I likely would have traced it and started over again for a more improved version or for an inked version, and I never liked inking. Also scanned at 200dpi, and also reduced 50% afterwards.
